Hilltop House

A secluded gem.

Hilltop House is a summer-only cabin, open May-September, and one of the oldest, most secluded and unspoiled cabins in Green Mountain Falls.  Perched on nearly one full acre of property that backs up to the Pike National Forest, it is so 'hidden' that many long time residents in town are not even aware that it exists.  Built in 1908, it is full of antiques, and has now been completely restored with a large deck that features breathtaking mountain views and the sound of a snow-melt stream.   It is arguably the most secluded and beautiful deck view in Green Mountain Falls. While restoring it, the owners found (and have preserved) newspapers used as insulation that feature an article about the death of silent film star Rudolph Valentino!  A large claw-foot tub in the master bath completes this one of a kind mountain retreat.

At the end of the road.

Hilltop House is accessed by a private drive at the end of Colorado Street away from traffic. It is full of vintage furniture and turn-of-the-century photographs and artifacts. It features a large front porch with rocking chairs and spectacular views of Rampart Range. While sitting on the new deck, renters can not only hear the Crystal Creek stream, but see it as a silver ribbon of water coming down Mt. Ester.

The master bedroom features a queen size iron bed, and a dressing room with a full bath. The living room has a futon and looks out on towering blue spruce trees.  There is a downstairs bedroom area with two full sized beds, and a full bath with shower (perfect for the kids).

A place out of time,

right in town.

Hilltop House has plenty of private, off-street parking, and is a short, two block walk from the charming village center of GMF, which is emerging as an arts community with summer festivals which include the Green Box Arts Festival. There is the Blue Moose, a great bar, The Mucky Duck, a lovely restaurant and Duckies, for coffee and homemade ice cream. There is a playground for the kids, add a stroll around the lake with the Victorian gazebo and that completes an evening in the village. There is fishing, and frequent outdoor concerts that fill the air with music. And yes, this is where you find perhaps the best breakfast place on earth, The Pantry. If you like to hike, you are in paradise, as GMF continues to develop and mark hiking trails for all levels. Hilltop House is situated near several trail heads, and maps are provided.

Cherished for generations.

Hilltop House is a remnant of another time, perched on Mt Ester for over a hundred years and full of original antiques. The best feature is perhaps the huge front porch, which will remind you of big front porches in the south, with rocking chairs and gorgeous mountain views.

By design, this property is "screen free."  It has no WiFi, television set or gaming center.  The owners believe that a true vacation means some peace and quiet. So we filled Hilltop House with books, board games, and rocking chairs.  It this sounds like a real vacation to you, contact us.
